The 10 Exciting

1803 Louisiana Purchase – This was exciting because, The U.S. paid total cost of 15 million dollars for the Louisiana territory, and it doubled the size of the U.S.

1804-1806 Lewis and Clarke expeditions – This was exciting because they was the first American overland expedition to the Pacific coast and back

1808-Congress prohibits Importing of slaves -Any new African slaves could be brought to the U.S. as slaves, and it was the first actions taken to end slavery, and it was extremely exciting.

1849 California Gold Rush- when gold was discovered by James Marshall, in Coloma, California

1793 Eli Whitney invents cotton gin-This was so exciting that it made it easy to pick the seeds out of the cotton for slaves to make thing out of cotton.

1800- Volta invents electric battery-This is also exciting because this is an invention that produces a steady stream of electricity for batteries, and Alessandro Volta invented it.

1848-Mexico session - The session was exciting for the United States because the United States gained more states like California, Nevada, Utah, and Arizona from the Mexicans.

1820-Federal Government offered land at $1.25 an acre – This was exciting to the people, because they could buy land at a good price to make their own profits from it.

1800-Library of congress Founded-This was really exciting because it stored the knowledge and books that the U.S., and was one of the biggest libraries at the times.

1797-1801-John Adams Pesidents-This is exciting because he played a role in Congress, to adopt the United States Declaration of Independence in 1776

Top 10 Most Painful

1793- Fugitive Slave act -It was painful to the runaway slaves because, soon as they was captured, they was going to be sent back into slavery.

1798- Alien and sedition act -This was painful because, it was stated that anyone claimed to be a terrorists will have their land taken.

1812-War of 1812 -A war fought between Great Britain and the U.S. at the time. It was painful because a lot of families was torn apart because allot f people died in it.

1818-First Seminole war-It was the war before the second Seminole war and also a lot of Indians suffered during this war

1829-Andrew Jackson introduces spoil system-This was painful and kind of wrong ,to the people that didn’t vote for Andrew Jackson, because they wasn’t given government jobs ,and the people that voted for them was.

1830-Indian removal act –This so painful, because the Indians were forced off their land, and had no here to go really.

1834-Seminole war -It was painful, because to the Natives, because they died and the lost a lot of money from the U.S. (Florida)

1834 - Indian territory founded -it was painful to the Indians because their land was taken, and after that they had to relocate, and that’s hard.


1838 Cherokee “Trail of tears” -It was a painful experience for the natives because they were being relocated and a lot of them died along the way.


1847-Mexican war- (a big war fought between the U.S. and Mexico that was a painful war to fight in. The Mexicans died and lost their land to the U.S.

  1. There are a few items in your lists that could use some tweaking. Ex: I don't know that I would say the cotton gin was exciting for slaves because the invention led to a demand for more cotton=more slaves. Also, need to discuss what made Adams an exciting president not member of Continental Congress. Overall all your lists are very good and show understanding of the concepts and ups and downs of the time period. Good work. 54/60 points.
